UCU Bishop Barham Sends Off 353 Graduates at Colorful Ceremony

Uganda Christian University (UCU), Bishop Barham University College (BBUC) has graduated 353 students in a colourful ceremony held at Rugarama Hill, Kabale, on November 14, 2025.

The class comprised 228 male (65%) and 125 female (35%) graduates who completed diploma, undergraduate and master’s programmes. The event attracted hundreds of parents, religious leaders, government officials and development partners who joined the university community in celebrating the milestone.

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Chancellor of UCU, The Most Rev. Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, congratulated the graduates and urged them to uphold humility, service and strong moral values as they enter the job market.

The ceremony also paid tribute to the late Rt. Rev. Dr. George William Tibeesigwa, the first Principal of Bishop Barham University College, and former Bishop of Ankole Diocese. Speakers described him as a visionary leader whose legacy continues to shape the college’s identity and growth.

The Chief Guest, Eng. Reuben Tumwebaze Byaruhanga, Managing Director of Uganda Clays Limited, encouraged graduates to align themselves with emerging global trends. He singled out carbon intelligence as a key skill for future professionals, noting that expertise in carbon analysis, accounting and sustainability will be central to addressing climate challenges.

Tumwebaze also emphasized the importance of virtual intelligence, professional digital communication, online etiquette and digital mentorship, which he said are now essential competencies in today’s fast-evolving work environment.

Representing the Vice Chancellor, Canon Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Rev. Prof. John Kitayimbwa, commended the academic and administrative staff for their dedication. He highlighted ongoing infrastructure upgrades, digital learning improvements and research development efforts aimed at maintaining UCU’s competitive academic standards.

The Bishop of Kigezi Diocese and Chairperson of the University College Governing Council, Rt. Rev Gaddie Akanjuna, advised graduates to prioritize integrity, discipline and humility. He noted that while academic qualifications open opportunities, good character and attitude are what sustains progress in workplaces and communities.

College Principal Dr. Alice Tumwesigye applauded the graduates for their resilience and commitment during their academic journey. She reaffirmed the university’s commitment to strengthening its academic programmes, expanding partnerships and promoting innovation and moral formation.

The colourful event saw jubilant graduates, accompanied by cheering parents and friends, receiving their certificates, diplomas and degrees.

University leaders encouraged the Class of 2025 to step into the world with confidence, purpose and a commitment to service. They said the graduates leave BBUC equipped with relevant skills, strong values and the readiness to contribute to national and global development.
